Yesterday we bought L a forward facing car seat to replace his infant seat that he had outgrown. He's still rear facing in a convertable seat in my car, but J's Mustang would not hold a rear facing convertable seat. It's so funny, I know you can put children forward facing at 1 year and 20 pounds (both of which L has surpassed), but it was really hard for me to do it! You hear so many things these days about waiting as long as possible to put a child forward facing.
Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am super strict about following all guidelines for babies with L. I am definitely the extremist. I nursed L 14 months, didn't start rice cereal/solids until 6 months, made my own baby food (although that was a financial gain more than anything), and poor Logan didn't have any sugar until his first birthday (except for that little dab of icing from his baptism cake that Uncle D insisted he have...).
But the best of all is my severe anti-bumbo/walker/jumperoo/exersaucer attitude. My husband will never let me live down the fact that I deprived our son of everyone of those items. As a PT, these things are all developmentally a no-no (mainly when used in excess). For everyone else's children-they are fine, but for L-why spend my money when it's best he get into those positions by himself or with my assistance. I will still swear that L lifted his head, rolled, sat, and crawled early because he didn't have access to any of those items.
I remember when L was about 4 months old, I picked him up from daycare and he was in an exersaucer (which was a no-no on my typed list I had given the day care providers on day 1-yep, I'm that person). I kindly told the lady that I would prefer he lie on the floor and work on rolling and she looked at me like I was nuts.
Today, I went to a consignment sale and about choked and had to contain myself because they were selling used carseats and cribs! Plus they were selling used breastpumps, bottles, spoons, etc. The only thing I could bring myself to buy was clothing. I got great deals, though!
Another time, a friend watched L and apologized to me when I picked him up because she had put him in a bumbo seat for a few minutes while she used the restroom! I realized then I was an extremist about these things and had to laugh at myself.
Anyhow, my point of the day is: How in the heck did I make it to my 2nd birthday. I rode in the front car seat in a pumpkin chair, loved my Johnny Jump Up (the one that hangs from the doorway), probably slept in a hazardous crib, and gnawed on lead based paint! I think sometimes I get too hung up on my compulsive baby safety issues...

Starting Something New...
So, I've decided to try this blog thing out. Maybe it will save my Facebook friends from constant updates during the day:) I don't know how often I'll blog, I guess it depends on how much I have to say.
Let's get started!
Today has a been a pretty normal day for me, but my exciting news was that I am down 3.5 pounds! My husband did not celebrate this victory with as much gusto as I had hoped, so I called my mom. She was excited! I have gained 10 pounds since I stopped nursing my son, I guess I accidently forgot that I was feeding two people anymore. So, my goal is to be down 5 pounds by the time my husband and I go on our vacation.
On a funny note, we almost gave the lady at toys r us a heart attack today. We took both our cars to the store since I had just had my oil changed. We needed a new carseat for my husband's car, so we took it out to make sure it fit, then went into buy it. We traded off the infant seat. As we were getting ready to leave, the saleslady offered to help us get the new seat into the car. I told her that we would be fine. We had just planned on sticking the box in the back of the car and installing it once we got home. At first, I didn't understand her shock until I realized she had no idea that we had another car in the parking lot that already had a child seat installed...Haha! I'm pretty sure she followed us to the parking lot anyway to make sure we weren't taking our son home Britney style!!!
